Physiology and Histology of the Skin

The skin is the largest and one of the most important organs of the body. Healthy skin is slightly moist, soft, flexible, possesses a slightly acid reaction and is free from any disease or disorder. The skin also is a protective covering to the body and has it's s own immunity response to organisms that may try to enter it and cause disease or disorder. The skin  also protects the internal organs from external injury.

So as the skin is a protective covering it is important whilst exfoliating to remove dead dull cells which leaves the skin feeling smooth and silky, it is important not to over exfoliate to cause a thinning of the skin. Whether using a manual action exfoliant or a chemical peel or machine it is important to be aware that the skin is a first defence in protecting the inner organs and also is the same as over exposure to sun causing a thinning of the skin.

Important part of the skin is moisture, a normal ph balance of the skin........
